‘A painting started out in the open at Booby’s Bay, Cornwall and finished years later in the studio. I wanted to make a painting about the sea at night, its endless roar while we sleep. Its sound can be both terrifying and comforting at the same time. Yet after successfully creating dark clouds and rough waves, I felt compelled to lift the painting with wild colour.’
